London GAA has been granted planning permission to proceed with the redevelopment of Ruislip.
Work will begin on the £4.17/€5 million project after the Exiles play host to Roscommon in the Connacht SFC on May 24. The redevelopment is subject to approval by the Greater London Authority.
"This is great news, the hard work starts now," London chairman Noel O'Sullivan told the Irish World.
Planning issues have already held up the much-needed revamp which will see the Emerald Grounds transformed into a modern county ground with a capacity of 3,900.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will contribute €600,000 towards the project from its Emigrant Support Programme and €1.4million will come from the GAA at central level. The outstanding balance will be met by London GAA and its clubs.
