Warwickshire GAA End of Season Report.
The 2014 season came to a close Sunday 7th. December with the Annual Convention at the headquarters Pairc Na hEireann. As is tradition Convention started with the Annual Blessing of the Memorial and prayers for those names added this year and those named in earlier years. Fr. Tim Burke the Warwickshire GAA Patron blessed the memorial and said Mass for all named.
The convention started with the Presidents address. Aiden Flynn (O'Rahillys) thanked all the hard working volunteers who week in week out manage in the best part to put teams on the pitch. Thanked referees for making our games possible and his fellow offices for the work both seen and unseen.
Michael Collins (John Mitchels Hurling) gave his Chairman's address and had unfortunately to start on a negative note commenting on the poor discipline of a small number of members regarding side-line abuse towards referees. Mentors must take responsibly of their supporters and insure their players abide by the rules of the association as breaches have and will be dealt with firmly. On a positive note he paid tribute to the performances of the County Hurling Team and the manager Pat Hoey who during a year of transition are in a strong position to be competing for honours next year. Michael when on to praise the work of Brendan Harkin with the County Footballers with a great journey to the Provincial Final and more importantly a strong comradery among the players from more clubs across Warwickshire than ever before. Michael also spoken of the great work and positive attitude of the Underage Committee with successes across all age groups. The Sean McDermotts Colly Folan Day was a magnificent success with great support from many Clubs and will now become a Provincial Annual Advent. Finally Michael thanked his fellow Offices and Denis Neenan (Erin-go-Bragh) who has won the BCC West Midland Unsung Hero award for promoting & coaching Gaelic Games, which brought great TV coverage of our games.
Paddy Hoey (Roger Casements) addressed the Convention and echoed Michael's comments regarding discipline. Paddy's written report presented as Convention started when into detail of the achievements and highlights of the year, Paddy also thanked the sponsors, fellow offices and County Teams all at levels.
Martin Grogan (Roger Casements) presented at the meeting the accounts for the year of the County Board and Social Club. An increase in the surplus in the year on last year's accounts. After a short discussion relating to a couple of items of expenditure relating to Club house improvements the accounts where accepted by Convention.
