Launch of Scór for Scotland

A warm buzz of excitement was felt at Malones Irish Bar Glasgow for the official launch of the first ever Scór for Scotland early this month. The competition is being hosted by GAA club Tír Conaill Harps GAC in an effort to develop links between the GAA and Glasgow's Irish organisations in a new celebration of Irish culture.

Scór seeks to promote Ireland's non-sporting cultural past-times through adult and junior competitions will consist of eight separate categories. With a host of Comhaltas Ceolteoiri Eireann branches, dancing schools and Conradh na Gaeilge thriving in and around Glasgow, the competition is expected to draw elite performers across a variety of disciplines. The renowned Scór quiz takes place at 7.30pm on Friday 7th November and the remainder of events on Saturday 8th November from 1pm, both in Malones Irish Bar Glasgow. With no British Scór taking place, category winners will advance to participate at provincial level by representing Scotland and Britain at the Ulster Scór in Spring 2015.

Scór for Scotland was officially launched by Tír Conaill Harps' Scór committee in Malones early this month, with special guest Pat Bourne of the Irish Consulate in Edinburgh present to promote the event and offer his words of support. Live music was provided by Blás, as well as Kevin and Liam Murphy and David Browne, as some wonderful traditional Irish entertainment was on offer to give a taste of the talent Glasgow's Irish diaspora will bring to the fore through Scór for Scotland. With the Scór website going live in early September, the main goal now is to spread the word of Scór for Scotland, through the formal establishment of event partners and sponsors, who can assist us in promoting the event and making it a huge success.
