Our U13 boys travelled to Dromore to face the home side, on Monday (17th) in the League Semi-Final. The Young Hoops played their hearts out but unfortunately came out second best, in a very competitive game. We led at half time by 1 point with our goals coming from Mark Donnelly and Paul O'Neill. The second half began with an early goal for Dromore but our lads battled back brilliantly, only for some wayward shooting preventing them going into a deserved lead. As the game entered the closing stages, Dromore got awarded 2 penalties, one of which hit the post and the second was brilliantly saved by Daniel Rafferty. After this Dromore struck 2 fortunate goals which effectively won the game. Overall this was a great performance from the team, with great displays from Daniel in goals and all 6 defenders, especially Christopher Staunton who just gets better with every game. Paul and Cathal in midfield played superbly against bigger opponents and all our forwards tried their best. We cannot forget the contributions of our six subs who have made themselves available all year. No doubt this team will be challenging for silverware next year. Huge thanks to all our support who cheered on the team. We want to take this opportunity to thank our U13 management team of Colm Rafferty, Seamus O'Neill and Ruairi O'Neill for such a great job they done with these lads this year and having them playing great football and doing very well in this competition.

Last Saturday (15th), our U16 boys made the short trip to Augher for their Grade 1 Championship Final, against Dromore. Our team was: Michael Conlon in nets with Mattie-Joe Mc Kenna in front of him with Jude Cunningham and Tiernan Kelly in either corner. Our half-back line was Cormac Skeffington, Louis Conlon and Niall Loughran. Our midfield pairing was Matthew McCusker and Daniel Miller. Our half-forward line was Micheal O Neill, Cormac Donaghy and Mark Monaghan. The full forward line was Cormac McElvogue, Tomas Hoy and Jason Doyle. We won the ball at the start and immediately set up an attack with Matthew McCusker and Daniel Miller combining and Daniel Miller passed to Jason Doyle who scored  a great goal. Cormac Donaghy won a break ball and found Niall Loughran running of the shoulder who slotted over a long range point. Matthew McCusker then won a high catch and set up another attack involving Louis Conlon, Micheal O'Neill, Niall Loughran and Cormac Donaghy who passed to Tomas Hoy who was fouled. Tomas took the free himself and kicked over with ease. Killeeshil was defending very well with Mattie-Joe Mc Kenna at the heart of it, helped out by Tiernan Kelly and Jude Cunningham. Dromore got a free of their own and shot over their first score. Our midfield won the resulting kick-out from Michael Conlon to set up another attack. This time Daniel Miller was fouled and he took a quick free, passing to Cormac Donaghy who slotted over a sweet point. Mark Monaghan then gathered possession from a wayward Dromore kick-out and he passed to Tomas Hoy who blasted the ball into the bottom corner of the Dromore net. Dromore started to settle down and hit Killeeshil with some hard tackles. We had to introduce a blood sub as Darragh Neill came on for Jason Doyle. We then conceded two frees within range that Dromore scored. We had a few chances of our own but failed to hit the target. Dromore got the next score from a tight angle. Killeeshil then started an attack with Cormac Skeffington finding Niall Loughran who passed to Louis Conlon who fed Tomas Hoy before he was fouled. Tomas Hoy kicked the ball over the black spot from the resulting free, before the referee blew for half time. Half-time score Killeeshil 2-04 Dromore 0-04. Our midfield pairing of Daniel Miller and Matthew McCusker won the ball between them as the second half got underway and Matthew McCusker fed Tomas Hoy, who had worked himself into a scoring position before shooting another fine point. Dromore worked a short kick-out into a score of their own. Killeeshil had plenty of possession with our defence working very hard and tackling well but our attacks were breaking down as Dromore tackled ferociously. Niall Loughran was then fouled in advanced position, allowing Cormac Donaghy to slot over the free.Tomas Hoy and Cormac McElvogue covered alot of ground tracking back, trying to gather possession as Dromore started to gain momentum in the game. Dromore then got a free in a scoring position and slotted over and they kept the pressure on Killeeshil as they got the next two points before Jason Doyle scored a good point for us, thanks to the hard work of Tomas Hoy, Niall Loughran and Matthew McCusker. We brought fresh legs on now as Darragh Neill, replaced the exhausted Cormac McElvogue. We were defending well at this stage, typified by Mattie-Joe McKenna's brave block that ran out for a 45. From that Dromore scored and got another one straight after and scored aswell. The game was now deep into injury time and Dromore lobbed the ball into the square, the ball broke to a Dromore man who's shot was tipped onto the post by Michael Conlon. They took the resulting 45 short and kicked over as the referee blew the full-time whistle. Well done to the entire panel and management team on this fantastic result. The lads are back training on Tuesday at 6.30 pm and Thursday at 7.30pm as they prepare for their Grade 1 League Final, against Dungannon this Saturday (22nd), again in Augher at 3.30 pm. Good luck lads. Please go along and cheer on the lads as they chase more silverware.

Our U16 girls are training this week on Wednesday and Friday at 6.30 pm. These girls have a game this Sunday (23rd) as they play Cookstown in the Championship semi-final in Cookstown at 4 pm. We would appreciate a huge support for this talented young team.

Our minor girls travelled to Drumquin on Sunday 16th for the long awaited Grade 1 League Final against Aghyaran for a throw-in at 12 noon. Aghyaran won the toss and took full advantage of the wind down the field.  Killeeshil were first out of the blocks from the throw in and went straight on the attack resulting in a point from Shannon Stevenson.  From the resulting kick out, Killeeshil gained possession through the hands of Bronagh McKenna who won herself a free which resulted in a second point for Shannon Stevenson.  The next 2 scores came from Aghyaran, 1 from play and 1 from a free.  Shannon Stevenson was at the fore again, resulting this time with a major 3 pointer.  Within a minute it was cancelled out with a well taken goal by Aghyaran with nothing between the two sides mid-way through the first half. Niamh McCool was working tirelessly at midfield and with the energetic Chloe Collins always looking to get on  the ball, they both supplied our forward line with quality play resulting in another 2 goals from Roisin McErlean and Shannon Stevenson. Aghyaran entered a purple patch resulting in a number of points but through the hard work of our defence of Caitlin Campbell, Shauna Stevenson, Sarah Nugent, Catherine McCusker and our ever reliable No. 1, Sarah Traynor we kept out any goal attempts. The half finished on a score line of 3-2 to 1-7 in our favour. The second half started with a sucker blow from Aghyaran as they hit the net directly from the throw-in, leaving them 2 points up, but fair play to the Killeeshil girls they didn't panic and worked the ball up the field for a goal of their own, from yours truly Shannon Stevenson.  She may be getting a lot of applause but her twin Shauna Stevenson, was having a Lady of the match performance in the back line cutting out Aghyaran's major threats, being first to every ball and showing great leadership. Both teams traded points and this time Bronagh McKenna got on the score sheet, with a well taken free kick.  Aghyaran were not going away easily, their dogged persistence got them their third goal of the afternoon.  Shannon Stevenson popped up with another point before Roisin McErlean was through on goal and was taken down and awarded a penalty.  With Shannon Stevenson now on fire and full of confidence, she placed the ball high to the roof of the net. Our travelling support were eating each others nails with some of them not able to watch the closing stages of the game and had to go for a walk. Shannon Stevenson came to the fore again with another point to leave us 2 points to the good but as every Gael knows, this can be a dangerous lead.  Our back line stood tall in those vital last few minutes until our super sub, Alannah Donnelly who made a major impact after her half-time introduction, won a 50-50 ball and fed Roisin McErlean who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.  This was the killer blow to Aghyaran who had fought right to the end. What a fantastic game for all involved and those who watched it. Kevin Bogle blew the final whistle on a scoreline of 6-7 to 3-11.  This was a great victory for these young group of girls who are all minors next year.  Killeeshil girls and management would like to thank Drumquin for their hospitality after the game providing tea and coffee for all those in attendance.  Congratulations to the girls and management and thanks to our loyal supporters.

On Saturday (15th), our senior men travelled with a depleted squad to face Drumquin in Drumquin for their final league game. We battled hard in the first half and trailed by a point at half time. We faded badly during the second half before succumbing to another defeat.
