Tyrone gael dies in car crash on way to Clones

Tyrone GAA club Urney St Columba's has expressed its 'heartfelt condolences' to the family and friends of Cyril McGhee who tragically lost his life in a car crash en route to the Red Hands' Ulster SFC semi-final clash with Cavan yesterday.

Mr McGhee was Clones bound when his car left the Gardiners Cross Road near Tempo, Co Fermanagh shortly after midday and he died in hospital a short time later.

Two passengers, named as husband and wife Francis and Bernie McCorkill, were also taken to hospital.

The Strabane Chronicle reports that Mr McCorkill has since been released however his wife remains in a stable condition.

A statement posted on Urney St Columba's Facebook page reads: "The club would like to send out it's heartfelt condolences to the friends and Family of Cyril McGhee who passed away yesterday travelling to the Tyrone game.

"Bernie McCorkill is recovering in hospital and we wish her a speedy recovery.

"Cyril was a true Gael and devoted much of his free time to helping his club, community and parish.

"The image of him smiling contently after Urney beating league leaders Moy along with other fond memories will stay with many.

"He will be sorely missed by everyone in the club."
