Cookstown and Tyrone GAA yesterday paid their final respects to Fr Rock's GAA club groundsman Sean McElwee.

The much-loved GAA member died after his van was involved in a collision with a truck on Saturday afternoon; jerseys from Cookstown and Tyrone were draped across his coffin yesterday afternoon as it was carried from the Holy Trinity Church by relatives donning their local club colours.

Players and members of Fr Rock's formed a guard of honour as the remains left the church; earlier, a flag in Paddy Cullen Park - where Sean was groundsman - was flown at half mast.

Fr Gerry Tremer commented on the deceased's huge contribution to the GAA: "Sean wasn't a star on the field but he prepared the field so that it was fit for stars. I would invite the members of Fr Rock's as they play on the field to never forget the memory of one whose dedication to your club was never in doubt."
