Sean Cavanagh refused to blame a controversial umpiring call for Tyrone's defeat to Cork.

Colm O'Neill's 69th minute 'point', which ultimately proved the difference between the sides, looked wide, but Cavanagh insists Tyrone had no-one to blame but themselves after surrendering a five-point lead.

"We had a number of missed chances and our last pass in the second half against the breeze let us down, and our decision-making. We probably didn't play safe enough," rued the former Footballer of the Year, who spoke to the media afterwards in the absence of manager Mickey Harte.

"That's what will disappoint us as much as any decision made by an umpire or referee."

The Red Hands now face a battle to retain their top flight status, starting with a local derby clash against fellow relegation candidates Donegal in two weeks' time.

"Despite some of the external reports, we as a group feel we are creating plenty of opportunities," Cavanagh continued.

"Today we got a couple of goals and generally we are creating chances, which is pleasing us. but you have to give Cork credit. They are top of the league and you can see why."
