Sperrin Fest 2014; Gortin's Autumn GAA Festival

September 29, 2014

Gortin St Patrick's and Badoney Ladies GAA Club's have launched an Autumn Festival - Sperrin Fest 2014 - which will take place in the village of Gortin in an action packed weekend from Friday 31st October until Sunday 2nd November 2014.  The weekend has been planned to offer something for everyone.

The weekend begins on Halloween Night with Family Halloween Festivities at the Owenkillew Community Centre from 7PM - 9PM.  Then on Saturday 1st November over a dozen dancing couples will take to the floor for 'Strictly in the Sperrins' as some of Gortin's favourites team up with friends and neighbours to perform to win your votes in what is sure to be an entertaining event.  The weekend's activities will conclude as Gortin hosts 'Big Bingo' with a massive prize fund of £5050.
The Family Halloween Festivities will provide an entertaining Halloween night, with lots of fun and games for the children to enjoy while parents and grandparents will be offered some Halloween treats.  This event is a joint venture between the local GAA clubs and the Owenkillew Community Association.
Anticipation is already building for 'Strictly in the Sperrins' where an injection of glitz, glamour and fancy footwork will bring fun and frolics to the streets of Gortin on Saturday 1st November.  The 'Strictly' show is bringing together people from many parts of the county and different walks of life who are dedicating their time to a dancing programme that will prepare them for the big stage at the start of November.
Gortin's long tradition of hosting bingo continues on Sunday 2nd, where the prize fund will be bigger than ever at £5050 and will see two lucky winners taking home a thousand pounds.

Speaking about the event, Chairman of Gortin St Patrick's Gabriel Treanor said, "We have been working hard with our sister club Badoney Ladies to put on a weekend of activities that should have something to interest everyone in Gortin this Halloween.  We are also getting together with our local Community Association and combining all our efforts to host an event for the entire family on Halloween night.  The event will be open to all, so we will be inviting the whole community to come along and join us in a wide range of activities.  The club's main annual fund raising event will then take place from the Gortin Rouskey Social Centre on the Saturday night.  This years event is a 'Strictly' and the venue is no stranger to dancing as 'Gortin Hall' was one of the great Show Band venues of the 1970's and early 80's, so it will be great to bring it back to life for this event.   I myself have been practicing now for about 6 weeks along with about twenty other volunteers and the pressure is starting to build.  But it's all for a good cause as the funds raised are for an investment in new, modern facilities for our GAA clubs, and for the benefit of all our club members and our community".
