Coney sustains ligament damage

Kyle Coney has suffered a torn knee ligament but the injury is not believed to be serious.

The 24-year-old is set for a short spell on the sideline but is not in danger of missing the Red Hands' Ulster SFC opener against Down at Omagh on May 18th.

Coney's senior intercounty career thus far has been ravaged by injury but he treated fans to a glimpse of what he can do when firing over nine points during the course of the O'Neill County's draw with Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn - the only full game he's played this season!

The Ardboe ace sustained the knee injury during last weekend's clash with Dublin in Healy Park and had to cry off at half time. However, it is expected that he'll be back training within a fortnight.

Trainer Fergal McCann told The Irish News: "He has a slight tear to the medial ligament. It's like a grade one tear so he'll be missing out on training this week. He'll be assessed, but he hopes to be back next week."
