Brian Gavin has been appointed to referee next month's All-Ireland SHC final.

The Clara, Co. Offaly native will take charge of the Kilkenny v Tipperary decider on September 4. He is one of hurling's most experienced match officials, having previously handled the 2011 and 2014 (replay) finals involving the Cats and Tipp. He was also the 'man in the middle' for the drawn 2013 final between Clare and Cork.

Gavin has already refereed the drawn Allianz League final between Clare and Waterford and the All-Ireland SHC quarter-final between Galway and Clare this year.

Meanwhile, Wicklow's John Keenan will handle the Tipperary v Limerick All-Ireland MHC final.
