Tipperary Ladies Gaelic football notes

TIPPERARY MINOR TEAM
Tipperary will look to emulate Clare by winning back to back All-Ireland Ladies Football titles at the Minor B grade when they take on the Ulster champions Armagh on Saturday next at 2pm in Kinnegad.

The Munster champions have dominated this competition in recent years, winning 4 of the last 5 titles courtesy of successes by Clare (2012, 2013) and Tipperary (2010 and 2014).  Interestingly, the 2011 trophy went to Armagh and they will look to win their second title on Saturday next.

Tipperary and Armagh met in this competition in last year's All-Ireland semi-final at St. Peregrines GAA Blanchardstown and Armagh proved dangerous opponents, taking control in the defensive first half, earning a 0-7 to 0-4 interval lead. However, Tipperary's class eventually shone through as the Premier County scored five second half goals to race out winners by 5-13 to 1-10 before defeating Offaly in the All-Ireland Final.

As Tipperary look to retain their All-Ireland crown, they can call on the services off 11 of the team which captured the 2014 title. Backed by members of last year's All-Ireland Under 16 winning panel, Tipperary have a strong selection to choose from this season.

Tipperary began the 2015 season with a good victories over Kerry and Waterford before losing out to Cork in the Munster A Final. Tipperary rebounded with a 6-9 to 1-8 victory over Waterford in the Munster B Final. The All-Ireland semi-final played at MacDonagh Park Nenagh proved to be Tipperary's toughest game of the year thus far as 2014 finalists Offaly led for most of the game. However, a strong final quarter proved enough for Tipperary to qualify for their second consecutive All-Ireland final.

Armagh on the other hand have been very impressive in their campaign to date. In the earlier rounds of the Ulster Championship, Armagh racked up totals of 9-9, 10-33 and 11-18 before accounting for Cavan in the Ulster Final. In the All-Ireland Semi-Final, Armagh scored another 5 goals en route to a 5-4 to 0-12 success over Roscommon champions. All bar one point of their total in the victory over Roscommon was scored by Aimee Mackin and the same player earned the player of the match award in Armagh's Senior success over Laois last weekend.

Tipperary know they will need to be on top of their game in Saturday's final. With Maria Curley and Louise Cadell giving the team a strong spine to their defence, Aishling Moloney and team captain Elaine Fitzpatrick providing a platform at midfield and a balanced set of forwards, the hope is that Tipperary will be successful on the day.
