The funeral has taken place in Thurles this morning of Tipperary hurling legend Jimmy Doyle.

Doyle, who died last Monday at the age of 76, is regarded as one of the greatest hurlers of all-time. The Thurles Sarsfields clubman won six All-Ireland medals between 1958 and '71, captaining Tipp in their 1962 and '65 triumphs. He is also the holder of nine Munster, seven National League, eight Railway Cup and 10 Tipperary SHC medals.

In addition, he was named on both the Hurling Team of the Century and the Hurling Team of the Millennium.

Many well-known GAA personalties and former team-mates of Jimmy's attended his funeral Mass in the Church of St. Joseph and St. Brigid opposite Semple Stadium this morning. The hurling icon will be cremated at Island Crematorium in Cork.
