Tipperary's Paul Curran gets out in front of Kilkenny's Richie Power

Paul Curran has accepted an invitation to join Tipperary's backroom team for the championship.

The 33-year-old defender, who only announced his retirement from intercounty hurling last month, has been invited back into the camp by manager Eamon O'Shea. Assistant boss Michael Ryan confirms in The Irish Independent that the Mullinahone stalwart will be working with the Premier County full-back line:

"Paul's come in to do a bit of work with our inside back line. And we're delighted to welcome him in.

"If anything, we possibly are a bit under-resourced versus some of our competition. But Paul was more than happy to come on board. He's got years of experience here and he's got a lot to offer us.

"He commands a lot of respect, given the years and years of service he's given to us. It's a step in the right direction for us and he is a very positive, experienced resource."

Tipperary open their Munster SHC account against either Clare or Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds on June 21st.
