TIPPERARY INTERMEDIATE TEAM

Round five of the Tesco Homegrown National League Division Three saw Tipperary players and supporters descend upon Clonmel for the meeting with Wexford.  Clonmel Og was the venue on a cold but good day for football. Tipperary, still chasing that elusive first win in this year's league were keen to give the home support something to shout about. Wexford, last year's All Ireland Junior Championship winners had already accounted for Longford and drawn with Fermanagh.

Tipperary management made a number of pre match changes to this Tipperary teams selection yet again due to the unavailability of a number of players and their involvement with schools and Intervarsities football finals during the coming week. Tipperary, with two away games remaining against Sligo and Longford were coming into today's game anxious for a result on home ground.
From the throw in it was obvious that there was nothing between the two sides. These two teams are well acquainted having played league against one another for the past number of years. Wexford were first to score with a well taken point on three minutes but then Tipperary assumed superiority scoring the next four points from Gillian O'Brien (three frees). Tipperary's fifth point was a fine point from play by Tipperary half back Louise Cadell and Tipperary had now taken a four point lead with twenty three minutes gone. Unfortunately, this Tipperary team are sometimes guilty of taking their foot off the gas so to speak and in the remaining minutes of this half allowed Wexford back into the game. A Wexford goal from a penalty and three points (one free) saw them lead at half time by two. Wexford 1-4 Tipperary 0-5. Over-elaboration in the forward line is a habit this Tipperary team will be anxious to address before championship resumes in 2015. Tipperary's Lorraine O'Shea had replaced Roisin McGrath on twenty eight minutes.

The second half began with Tipperary making positive progress in attack. Some smart inter passing play at speed saw Gillian O'Brien and Lorraine O'Shea combine for the Tipperary girls opening goal finished by Gillian O'Brien in the second minute. With Tipperary now pressing more and more a second goal quickly followed again from the boot of Gillian O'Brien today playing at full forward. Once more though that familiar problem of complacency reared its head and Wexford replied with four unanswered points from play with the Tipperary defence now struggling to clear their lines.  Tipperary's Anne O'Dwyer was introduced for Maria Curley and Aoibhe O'Shea for Breda Feeney with ten minutes played in an effort to freshen up the Tipperary momentum. This steadied the ship somewhat and a Sarah Everard point from play and one from Gillian O'Brien concluded the Tipperary scoring with Wexford adding one more of their own before full time. Roisin McGrath was introduced for Tipperary replacing the hardworking Bernie Ryan at midfield. Wexford had a player sin binned with four minutes remaining which did not help their cause. Likewise Tipperary's Louise Cadell too saw the bin on twenty nine minutes when the game was still there for either side.

Maybe Tipperary have now turned a corner with this win following on from improved performances against Waterford two weeks ago and Fermanagh last week end. A little more slickness in attack with players taking on more individual responsibility will surely reap rewards later.  Full Time Score Tipperary 2-7 Wexford 1-9

TIPPERARY U14 TEAM
The Tipperary U14 team travelled to Stalker Wallace GAA Club, Martinstown, Co. Limerick for their Round 2 game in the Munster Championship with the hosts, County Limerick.

Limerick took possession from the throw in but it was Tipperary's Eva Fennessy who scored the first point of the game in the second minute. Emer O'Keeffe, Limerick replied with a goal in the ninth minute to give Limerick the lead. Although Tipperary were trying hard for scores, the goals were evading them until the twelfth and eighteenth minute when Angela McGuigan scored two goals for Tipperary. Noelle Curtin and Eva Fennessy traded points before Laura Nash, Limerick netted the ball to reduce the margin to a single point in the twentieth minute. These two teams were so close that it was injury time before the next two points for Tipperary's Emma Morrissey and Angela McGuigan (free) were scored. Tipperary 2-4 Limerick 2-1

Both sides returned to the field anxious to score and within the first minute Emma Ryan, Tipperary added a point to their score line but Limerick's Iris Kennelly scored a goal to reduce the margin to a point again. In the third minute Tipperary's Angela McGuigan pointed a free and Tipperary took ownership of the game with points from Ciara Dwan, Angela McGuigan and Emma Ryan before the final quarter of the game.  In the final stages Limerick strived to contain Tipperary's forwards but they had no success.  A hat trick of goals from Ciara Dwan (20th min), Ruth Butler (24th min) and Eva Fennessy (28th min) ensured Tipperary's victory. While points from Emma Ryan (21st min) and Niamh Ryan (26th min) reinforced the deficit. Tipperary 5-11 Limerick 3-1

TIPPERARY U16 CHAMPIONSHIP
In the Tipperary Ladies Football U16 A Championship Lattin Cullen played Moyle Rovers in Monroe on Sunday last and this game finished a draw, Lattin Cullen 1-7 Moyle Rovers 1-7.
