SFC round-up: wins for Loughmore and Cahir
August 07, 2014
Holders Loughmore-Castleiney and Cahir both registered 1-11 as they recorded narrow victories over the weekend.
Fielding without as many as eight regulars, Loughmore faced Ballyporeen at Cashel on Friday. It was a keenly-contested match but the defending champions maintained their unbeaten record in the competition with a 1-11 to 1-10 victory.
A long-range injury-time free from Liam Treacy (1-5) was the difference between the teams at the final whistle.
Ballyporeen needed to win to maintain any interest in the competition but the defeat means that they cannot progress beyond the group stage.
Meanwhile, in Round Three at New Inn on Saturday night, Padraig Whelan's goal fired Cahir to a 1-11 to 0-11 success against Arravale Rovers. Whelan finished the match with 1-2 in brackets after his name, while Benny Hickey top-scored with six points.
