A superb performance by our ladies footballers last Sunday morning in Tourlestrane, which included extra time drama, saw them win their intermediate championship semi-final by 3-11 to 2-9 and set up and county final meeting with St Mary's next month. This was a performance of character and determination by the team, who outscored Tourlestrane by five points during the extra period. Tracey O'Boyle contributed 3-1. Sunday's team was: Rachel Oates, Jayne McCormack, Aimee Oates, Shirley Nicholson (Capt), Lisa McLoughlin, Michelle McNamara, Avril Clancy (0-1), Denise Regan, Rachel Monaghan (0-5), Emily McCormack, Amanda Healy (0-2), Sinéad Regan, Róisín Healy, Laura Oates (0 -2), Tracy O'Boyle (3-1). Subs: Ella McDermott, Molly Brady, Kate Keys, Aisling O'Reilly. Keeley Greene, Megan Brady, Zara Mulrooney, Aisling Ewing, Grace Casserly, Caitlin Greene. Our congrats to the players and manager Mike Healy on reaching the county decider. The ladies final is fixed for September 16th at Markievicz Park.

 

No such luck for the junior men's footballers as their unbeaten run in the league was ended at the final hurdle last Sunday when they went down to Curry in the Division 4 decider at Kilcoyne Park on a final scoreline of 1-15 to 1-9. Despite 0-5 from Eoin Gaughan and 1-1 from Alan O'Dowd, Curry deserved their win on the day. 

 

It's a big weekend ahead for our senior men's footballers as they begin their Belfry senior football championship campaign against the holders Tourlestrane this Saturday evening in Markievicz Park at 7pm. We are in a three-team group along with Tourlestrane and Coolaney/Mullinabreena. We wish the players and manager Fergal O'Flaherty every success. The team would appreciate as much club support as possible on Saturday evening.

 

It was a good week for several of our underage girls teams. The U14 footballers made a winning start to the championship last Monday with a comprehensive win over Eastern Harps, while the Under 16s secured a 6-12 to 6-5 success away to St Farnan's last Thursday. The girls U12 team play Coolera/Strandhill at Oxfield this Friday evening at 6:30pm.

 

The U14 boys footballers were beaten by Curry in their championship group match last Friday evening, and there was no joy either for the U16 boys on Saturday as they lost their opening championship match to Tourlestrane.

 

Our boys U12 football teams are involved in league semi-finals on Tuesday evening. The Division 1 team play Coolera/Strandhill in a Shield semi at Oxfield at 7pm, while the Division 3 team travel to Grange to play St Molaise Gaels in the cup semi-final. 

 

Hard luck to our own Jack McLoughlin and the Sligo minor footballers who made Ulster champions Derry go the distance at Ballybofey last Saturday before losing their All-Ireland  minor quarter-final by a single point.

 

Our new minor hurling team put in a battling display against Naomh Eoin in the championship last week before going down on a final scoreline of 3-13 to 4-4.
