Our girls U16 footballers are still on track to retain the Sligo LGFA 'A' Championship title after a spirited 2-13 to 4-3 semi-final victory against Shamrock Gaels at Oxfield last Saturday morning. This was a fine all round team display, especially considering that the girls found themselves 1-1 to 0-0 behind after just five minutes. We now prepare for a county final meeting with Tourlestrane. The date, time and venue were being finalised at the time of going to press. The continuing progression of underage hurling in the club was rewarded at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Ballyhaunis last Friday night when four of our Benbulben Gaels hurlers, Donnchadh O'Brien, Daniel O'Connor, Eoin Kerrigan and Paul O'Brien finished third overall in the Connacht U12 hurling skills final. This was a fine achievement as the lads were competing against players from more illustrious hurling clubs in Galway, Roscommon etc.

 

Hard luck to boys U13 footballers who put in a courageous display in the Féile 'A' league final at Markievicz Park last Sunday morning before going down to a fine St Mary's team. While there was obvious disappointment, the players can be proud of their efforts and commitment and the future looks very bright for this crop of players.

 

Our U21 footballers produced a fine hour of football last Sunday to draw 1-15 to 2-12 with Shamrock Gaels in Group 2 of the 'B' Championship. Team captain Jamie Gillen kicked the equalising score in the closing moments to give the team their first point in the group stages. Our concluding round robin game is against neighbours St Molaise Gaels in two weeks time.

 

With their senior championship status for 2017 already assured for 2017, our senior footballers will aim to regain a place in Division 1 of the league this Sunday afternoon when they play Geevagh in the Division 2 decider this at Markievicz Park. Throw-in is at 3:15pm. Only the winners will secure promotion to the top flight for next season. Please come out and support the lads. 

 

Our boys U14 footballers have been invited by the Clonduff GAA club in county Down to play exhibition game and celebrate the Halloween festivities on Monday October 31st. This is an overnight trip and is attracting great interest from players and parents. The trip organiser is Jimmy Smith 0879925791.

Our Saturday morning GAA nursery training sessions will finish for year this Saturday morning (Oct 22nd) with a special presentation party for all participating players. Mums and dads are invited to join us for a 'thank-you' cuppa after training too. U6 training at 9:45am, U8 & U10 and 10:30am. Please note that U6 players should wear runners (instead of football boots) to training this Saturday.

 

The club's monthly meeting for October takes place on Monday night (24th) in Oxfield at 9pm.

 

We are seeking participants who are interested in representing the club in the upcoming Sligo Scór na nÓg (U17) finals on November 26th.
