What they said ... the weekend in quotes

"We know we have nothing won, but we've got pride back which is really important. The boys are entitled to be jumping and roaring there for a few minutes, but we know we've got a serious job in hand to win the Connacht Final."

Kevin Walsh is determined to keep Galway's feet firmly on the ground.

"Time will tell. We'll know more as the summer continues."

Can Mayo bounce back? Stephen Rochford was non-committal.

"Given where we were, how much time was left and how we put ourselves in a nice position it's a pity that we did concede it, but it wasn't all our doing, Cavan had a hand in it as well."

Cavan caught Mickey Harte and the Red Hands on the line.

"We'll have to look at our finishing for a start, that's the one thing we'll have to work on over the next couple of weeks."

Shooting practice will be top of Terry Hyland's agenda at Cavan training this week.

"I'm really, really disappointed for the players the way they've been treated. These people (in Croke Park) speak about player welfare - but they don't understand player welfare."

Louth manager Colin Kelly didn't disguise his anger at their six-day turnaround.

"We're just glad to get over it, we've had four weeks since losing to Tyrone and there's just a feeling of relief for the players, and ourselves too."

Damian Barton and Derry returned to winning ways.

"It was a tough day and it'll probably be a tough week but that's part and parcel of it. If they were giving out pats on the back, I'd take them but if they are giving abuse, I'm well fit for it."

Kieran McGeeney took the Orchard County's defeat to Laois on the chin.

"It wasn't pretty at times. It was a tough, tough championship match, as you will always expect when you play Armagh."

The result was all that mattered to Mick Lillis.

"I think more games is what we need and more games against more competitive opposition would probably be the answer."

Leitrim boss Shane Ward is not a fan of the qualifier system.

"We have one of the best midfield pairings and they showed it tonight."

The Carlow combination of Brendan Murphy and Sean Gannon is a match for most, insists Turlough O'Brien.

"Carlow were the better team on the night. We did not play well in the first half, except for maybe the last five minutes. At this level, you cannot get away with that."

The curtain came down on championship 2016 for Johnny Magee and Wicklow.

"I know I'm going to sound like the soccer boys - I didn't see it!"

Tipp manager Michael Ryan was unable to offer an opinion on John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer's red card in Semple Stadium.

"Between us not taking our chances and not creating enough, and Tipp defending very well, that was the difference."

TJ Ryan on what went wrong for the Treaty County.

"There was nothing rash in it. It wasn't a dirty game by any manner or means. I know referees try to bring a bit of order because there were a few hardy belts before that."

Captain Colin Egan's red card proved costly for Eamonn Kelly and the Faithful County.

"I knew coming into the game that the lads were in a good position so obviously not the ideal start but I think they showed great character in responding to being 1-2 down."

Micheal Donoghue will attempt to plot Kilkenny's downfall in the Leinster SHC decider.
