Drumcliffe/Rosses club notes

April 18, 2016

Heartiest congratulations to our U14 hurlers who, for the third consecutive year, have qualified to represent Sligo at the All-Ireland Féile. The team secured their place after weekend wins against St Mary's and Tourlestrane. Despite losing to Easkey, they still qualify as one of Sligo's two Féile representatives. Well done to the players and management. Féile na nGael 2016 takes place from June 17-19th in Tipperary and Waterford.

The senior footballers remain unbeaten after four matches in the Furey's Coaches SFL Division 2. They enjoyed a comprehensive 1-12 to 0-4 win at home to St John's on Saturday evening. Next up: Connolly Park, Collooney on Saturday evening to face Owenmore Gaels. Throw-in: 6:30pm.

An understrength ladies team concluded their Spring Cup campaign last Sunday when they lost their final group match to St Mary's. Congrats to our county representatives Rachel Monaghan and Michelle McNamara who were part of the Sligo team which retained its Division 2 league status the same afternoon with a dramatic two-point play-off win against Meath.

The boys minor footballers travel to play Geevagh this Friday evening in Division 3 of the league. Throw-in: 7pm. Our U14 footballers are away to Shamrock Gaels on Thursday evening at 7pm. Thanks to Calry/St Joseph's for facilitating a challenge game last Sunday evening.

The girls U10 footballers played a very enjoyable challenge match against St Mary's last Saturday morning in Oxfield. Thanks to the St Mary's club and all the parents who came out to support both teams.

The club's next monthly club meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 25th, in Oxfield at 9pm.

Our cultural officer, John O'Callaghan, will be one of the guest speakers at a special event in the Hawk's Well theatre on April 25th, which will examine what life was like in Sligo at the time of the 1916 Rising. For ticket information, see our Facebook page or visit hawkswell.com.

Look out for an update on our #CyclePoint2Point later this week which will have news of a revised route and one-day event format. See facebook.com/cyclepoint2pointfor more info.
