Congratulations to the girls minor footballers, who produced a superb display last Sunday morning in Tubbercurry to lift the County Minor 'A' Championship title for 2015. The team's 2-13 to 2-10 victory over Eastern Harps was thoroughly deserved. They came from a point behind at half-time, to score six unanswered points at one stage during the second half, and eventually win by three at the finish. As well as securing the county title, the DRP girls will now be Sligo's representatives in the Connacht club minor football championship next month. The panel, which includes four sets of sisters, is: Zara Mulrooney, Joan Brennan, Michelle McNamara, Shirley Nicholson, Ella McDermott, Aimee Oates, Rachel Oates, Denise Regan, Ciara Redmond, Lisa McLoughlin, Amanda Healy, Sinéad Regan Róisín Healy, Laura Oates, Ciara Goonan. Subs: Keeley Greene, Emily McCormack, Jayne McCormack, Kate Keyes.
The club's other championship head-to-head with Eastern Harps at the weekend didn't go so well. The men's senior team are facing a senior championship relegation play-off following their 1-10 to 0-9 defeat in Keash on Sunday evening. We had led at half-time, and the sides were still level with five minutes remaining. But Harps finished the stronger to book their place in the quarter-finals. The draw for the relegation play-offs will be made next Sunday.
The boys minor footballers were knocked out of the championship at the quarter-final stage last Thursday evening. They produced a gutsy performance against Shamrock Gaels in Coola before going down on a final scoreline of 3-16 to 3-12.
The U14 hurlers were beaten by Easkey/St Farnan's in their 'A' championship final last Friday in Markievicz Pk. The game was a rematch of the league final and the poor weather conditions made it difficult for both teams. Superior skills & strength provided the platform for the Easkey victory by 2- 17 to 1-3. One highlight of the game was the brilliant penalty save by DRP captain Patrick. O Connor. This team has made tremendous progress during the year. Thanks to all the parents for their support, and to Davis's Restaurant for providing refreshments after Friday's match.
Thanks to everybody who attended the Code of Ethics Course & Child Protection Course at Rathcormac National School. Remember: this course is mandatory for all club coaches across all grades of our activities.
The boys U9 and U11 teams contest another round of the City Leagues at Scarden this evening (Tuesday) while our U13 footballers host Shamrock Gaels at Oxfield on Wednesday at 6:30pm.
Good luck to our U16 girls footballers who continue their championship campaign on Tuesday evening with a trip to Gurteen to face rivals Eastern Harps at 6:45pm.
The club's All-Ireland football final ticket draw will be made this Thursday night (17th) in the Yeats Tavern, Drumcliffe at 9.30pm. Draw tickets cost €5 or 3 for €10. We'll also be making our first two draws for the new DRP Super Monthly Lotto
