Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

August 04, 2015

Hard luck to Neil Ewing and the Sligo footballers who made their exit from this year's All-Ireland football championship after losing to Tyrone last Saturday.

The men's senior team resume their Belfry Senior Club Championship campaign this Sunday evening at home to Eastern Harps in Group 3. This will be a special occasion for the club as it will will be the first time that Oxfield has hosted a men's senior club championship match. Throw-in on Sunday evening is at 6pm and we would appreciate strong home support for the team as they look to bounce back from their defeat to Tourlestrane in the opening group match last month.

Congratulations to club players Orla McGowan, Rachel Monaghan and the Sligo ladies team on their thrilling TG4 All-Ireland qualifier win over Roscommon in Ballinamore last weekend. The girls won by 2-15 to 2-13. The victory sets up an All-Ireland quarter-final meeting with Waterford in Birr in two weeks time.

Our boys U14 footballers received a walkover against St Pat's in their latest championship group match last week. Next up is St Farnan's this Friday evening in Oxfield at 7pm.

The boys U12 footballers put up a spirited display in the D league final at Markievicz Park last Wednesday. Despite losing out narrowly to St Molaise Gaels by 0-11 to 0-10, the lads can be proud of their performances.

We wish club player Oisín O'Reilly every success with the Irish boys U16 basketball team which will compete in the European Championships in Bulgaria next week. Oisín enjoyed All-Ireland success with Summerhill College earlier this year and we're delighted see him represent his country on the international stage.

The club meeting for August will take place on Monday 10th at 9pm in Oxfield. Our monthly club newsletter will be emailed to all members on Wednesday, August 12th. If you have news items for inclusion please email [email protected].
