Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

June 22, 2015

Congrats to Neil Ewing and the Sligo team on a memorable win over Roscommon in the Connacht semi-final last Saturday. It was a rousing victory and Sligo deservedly take their place in the provincial decider against Mayo on July 19th. Saturday was also a special occasion for another club member, Eoghan Smith, who played with the Sligo Cumann na mBunscol team during the half-time exhibition game.

We wish our club players on the minor panel - Sean Power and Cian Lally - every success this Saturday when Sligo take on Leitrim in the Connacht minor championship quarter-final in Carrick-on-Shannon at 2pm.

Sligo ladies made it a weekend to remember for the county when they defeated Roscommon in the opening game at Markievicz Park in the Connacht Intermediate Championship. Sligo won on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-10. Well done to club players Orla McGowan and Rachel Monaghan.

Our U14 hurlers enjoyed a terrific weekend at Féile 2015 in Ulster. They represented the club with distinction, winning one of their three group matches before being narrowly defeated in their Shield qualifier game. Our thanks to the Castleblaney Faughs club, who were tremendous hosts for the weekend. Read more about the weekend on our Facebook page this week.

Congratulations to Paul O'Brien who won gold for Drumcliffe in the Boys U12 Long Puck at the Sligo Community Games finals. Paul has kindly agreed to give his dad Jimmy some badly-needed coaching in the coming weeks following Jimmy's second place finish in a senior Poc fada event at Féile last weekend.

Our U12 boys footballers play St Mary's on Tuesday in Oxfield at 7pm. Training will continue at Rathcormac school on Thursday at 7pm. We make the trip to County Tyrone this coming Saturday to take part in the Annual Moy GAA Club underage tournament (the home club of Tyrone duo Sean & Colm Cavanagh). Teams from all over Ulster and Dublin will be taking part. It promises be a great experience for our players.

The club's Youth Hurling Camp for 12-16 year olds is taking place all this week in Oxfield. The lead coaches are Galway hurlers Padraig and John Brehony. The fee per day is €10. To book a place, call Aidan O'Reilly on 087 9785311.

Our U8 and U10 footballers travel to Curry this Wednesday evening to play in the latest round of the Go Games league.

The venue for the GAA Nursery this Saturday morning (27th) will be Rathcormac NS. U6 training starts at 9:45am. U8 & U10 at 10:30am. Our thanks to Dearbhla Gill, Principal of Scoil Réalt na Mara in Rosses Point for making the school facilities at the Point available to us last weekend.
