Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

April 27, 2015

The seniors suffered their first league defeat of the season on Sunday, going down by 1-10 to 0-10 against Coolera/Strandhill in Oxfield. We had chances to get a draw or even a win but it wasn't too be. The next league game is away to Tourlestrane this Sunday at 3pm.

Well done to Rachel Monaghan, Orla McGowan and the Sligo ladies team on their 2-9 to 1-8 league semi-final win over Leitrim in Ballyhaunis. The Sligo girls now face Waterford in the Division 3 decider.

Our Under 16 girls had a good win in the league against St Mary's in Kent Park last Wednesday.

Our U14 hurlers qualified for Feile na nGael as runners-up in the Sligo Feile in Scarden last Saturday.  In a very close fought game this young team managed a one-point win over Naomh Eoin to qualify for Feile again this year but were unable to retain their crown against a very strong Easkey/St Farnans team. Feile na nGael 2015 will take place from 19th to 21st June in Ulster.

It's a busy week for the club's underage hurling teams. The U12s play Castleconnor on Tuesday evening while our U16s play Glencar/Manorhamilton on Thursday.  Both games are in Oxfield at 7pm.  The U14s play Calry/St Joseph's in Hazelwood on Friday.

The club is making plans to run a hurling summer camp in June for players aged 12-16. The proposed dates are June 22nd to 26th.

Our U12 footballers had a great win against Shamrock Gaels in Coola last Wednesday evening. It's great to see such enthusiasm in this bunch of players. Training continues on Sundays at 6pm (till 7.15). Our next match is at home to tourlestrane on May 5th. Thanks also to Stephen Kivlehan of Rathcormac Steel for carrying out repairs to our underage goals.

The club is holding a table quiz Austie's Restaurant in Rosses Point on Friday, May 15th, at 9:30pm.  The proceeds are in aid of the club's minor football team on Friday, May 15th at 9:30pm. The entry fee is €20 for a team of four. All are welcome. There'll be music too. The minors lost narrowly to Eastern Harps last Thursday on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-14.

The GAA"s annual Kelloggs Cúl Camp will be held in Oxfield from July 20th to 24th this year. It's open to children aged 6-13 years. They'll get to learn GAA games from qualified coaches in a safe and fun environment. For more information, contact local coordinator Mary Power on 087 6288718.
