Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

March 23, 2015

Hot Pot hits the spot!
A big go raibh maith agaibh to all the families and friends of the club who attended our St Patrick's Day Family Hotpot event in Harry's, Rosses Point. It was a big success. We'd like to thank Fenton Ewing and the staff of Harry's for their hospitality, all the club members who cooked the many hot pots  in advance, and all the hard working kitchen crew who earned an honorary Michelin star on the day! We'd also like to extend our appreciation to the businesses who kindly donated spot prizes for our raffle.  Congrats to Diarmaid Mullen who correctly guessed the number of sweets in the jar - 435. He gets to keep it!  Last, but not least, a big thank-you to Mary Power who was the driving force behind the event. The club will be making a presentation to our chosen charity Partner for the Hot Pot event, the MS Therapy Centre, in the very near future.

The senior men drew with Coolaney/Mullinabreena on Sunday in the Furey's Coaches SFL Division 1 at Nace O'Dowd Park. It's very early days but we currently lie third in the Div 1 table behind Tubbercurry and Eastern Harps after two rounds of league matches.

Training continues for our Intermediate ladies team every Sunday afternoon in Oxfield from 3pm to 4.15pm.

Sligo Ladies GAA is running a fun three-day Gaelic Football Camp for girls during the Easter holidays at IT Sligo. The dates are Tuesday, March 31st to Thursday, April 2nd inclusive and the camp is tailored for female players ages 5-16. You can register for a single day (€15) or for all three days (€30). For more info, see our Facebook page.

Our U16 Boys commenced their league campaign with a fixture against Coolera/Strandhill in the U16 B League on Friday evening in Oxfield.  Despite losing the game, the team put in a very spirited performance and scored 3-10 against formidable opposition.  It was great to see that heads didn't drop and the team continued to play and support each other throughout the game.  We wish our goalkeeper Emmett McGarrigle a speedy recovery following the knee injury he suffered early on in the match.  A more detailed match report is available on the club's Facebook page. We play St John's in our next match on Sunday morning at 11:30 in Carraroe and will hope to build on a fine opening performance.

Good luck to the U16 girls team who play St Molaise Gaels on Wednesday evening in a North Sligo derby.

The U12 hurlers continued their winning ways with a good win over St Mary's Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday in the Connacht Suck Valley league.  A large squad of 18 players turned up for the match and a very entertaining game was served up by both teams   Next up - Glencar/Manorhamilton this Saturday in Oxfield at 2pm. Another win will ensure we top our group and  progress to the next stage of the competition.

Well done to the Sligo minor football team which recorded another win in the Connacht Minor League - this time against Galway 1-9 to 0-9 in Tubbercurry last Saturday. The club was represented by Sean Power (0-1).

There was no jackpot winner in our latest lotto draw (€4,500). The five €50 winners were: 1. Jimmy Currid, 2. Elizabeth King, 3. Bridie Gaughan, 4. David Collins, 5. Conor & Kevin Davey.

Our GAA Nursery continues in Oxfield every Saturday morning. U6 training runs from 9.45 to 10.30. U8 & U10 starts at 10:30. New players (and their parents) are always welcome to join in at any stage.

The club extends sympathy to the McCaffrey family in Rathcormac following the death of Brian McCaffrey last week.
