Sligo manager Niall Carew has begun the arduous task of reducing his squad ahead of the NFL.

Carew revealed to the Sligo Champion that Cloonacool's Hughie Marron, Owenmore Gaels' Jason Farrell and Coolera/Strandhill's Dermot O'Connor have been cut from the squad, while Tourlestrane's Adrian McIntyre has informed the management team that he cannot commit to the cause for the year.

"We've used the FBD league as a trial for a number of players. Unfortunately, I had to tell some of them on Monday that they were out," said Carew.

"It is difficult and I would like to have kept them all. In fairness to the county board, we can only carry so many. We are not like Dublin or other teams. We simply don't have the resources and that's the reality of the situation."

Sligo play Leitrim in their last group game in FBD League this Sunday, which will be their last outing before the opening NFL clash against Limerick.
