Sligo manager Niall Carew is determined to improve the county's standing in footballing circles.

The former Waterford manager takes over from Pat Flanagan and he has set himself the target of making Sligo a force in Gaelic football.

"I want to bring Sligo to a better place than when I started," Carew told the Sligo Champion. "It's as simple as that. You will only see that after you step away from it and look back at what you have done sometimes.

The Kildare native met with the players last weekend where he outlined his plans for the coming year.
