Gormley: we didn't perform

October 29, 2014

Tubbercurry manager Willie Gormley admits that his side didn't perform in their Connacht club SFC defeat to Leitrim champions Aughawillan.

A spirited performance saw the Leitrim side finish the match strong and they thoroughly deserved their victory, but Gormley stated to the Sligo Champion that he was disappointed with his side's performance.

"I feel we didn't perform to our ability and that's not taking anything away from the opposition," said Gormley. "You know, we were missing three lads that played in the county final with holidays but I would not make that as an excuse.

"We didn't perform, we looked like we were still going to win the game when we went two points up and we had a chance to go three points up and maybe a strange decision by the referee to give a free against one of our lad when it looked as though he was fairly going down to pick up the ball and he didn't get a free and Aughawillan went up and got a score from that. They never gave in and I was very impressed by them."
