Taaffe: Carew best man for the job

Sligo chairman Joe Taaffe is adamant that they have got the right man for the senior football manager's job.

The sub-committee set up to find a replacement for Pat Flanagan have opted for former Waterford manager Niall Carew.

The Kildare native was ratified into the position earlier this week and he takes charge straight away as preparations for next year begin.

"The sub-committee set up to find Pat Flanagan's replacement felt Niall was the nest man for the job," Taaffe told the Sligo Champion.

"He was the most experienced and we talked at length to him before it was agreed that his name would go forward to the County Board for ratification.

"Niall did reasonably well with Waterford and they were only narrowly defeated by Galway in the qualifiers. Of course, everyone hopes that he will do well with Sligo."
