SECRETS OF KERRY'S ALL-IRELAND SUCCESS TO BE SHARED AT SLIGO SPORTS CONFERENCE
A key architect of Kerry's All-Ireland football championship triumph last Sunday will deliver a series of workshops at this weekend's National Coaching Forum, hosted by IT Sligo.
Dr Cian O'Neill, Kerry's fitness coach, will be taking delegates through the 'Principles of an Effective Warm-up' this Saturday.
O'Neill is one of the most qualified coaches operating in the GAA at the moment and is considered by many to be the pre-eminent authority on modern coaching and training methods in the country.
Prior to his involvement with Kerry, O'Neill assisted Mayo manager James Horan in their run to the All-Ireland football final of 2012. He was also the fitness coach of Tipperary hurlers when they ended Kilkenny's quest for five-in-a-row in 2010 and lifted the Liam McCarthy Cup.
Dr O'Neill is the current Head of Department for Sport, Leisure and Childhood at Cork Institute of Technology. He graduated with a degree in Physical Education from UL in 2000 and has since worked very successfully with a number of teams across various sports, He's originally from Newbridge in Co. Kildare.
The 11th National Coaching Forum is organised by Coaching Ireland, a unit of the Irish Sports Council and promises to be the biggest and most extensive gathering of professionals and volunteers involved in coaching sport. It will be held in the Knocknarea Arena at IT Sligo on Friday September 26th and Saturday, September 27th.
The Forum will attract coaches, tutors, sports development officers, physical education teachers, sports scientists and policy makers. Leading National and International presenters will take part in this event titled "Fun to Full Potential - Coaching the Whole Athlete".
