Sligo manager Pat Flanagan believes that his side need to maintain their best form if they are to make a mark in this year's Connacht SFC.

The Yeats County completed their Division Three league campaign with a defeat to Roscommon last Sunday, but Flanagan told the Sligo Champion that had they been more consistent during the earlier rounds, then the match against the Rossies could have been a promotion decider.

However, the former Westmeath manager chose to give his extended panel a run last weekend and he was very impressed by some of the performances on display.

"It certainly gave us a lot to think about. Some of the boys played very, very well," said Flanagan. "It gave us the opportunity to view the strength of the panel overall.

"Looking back on the league, I we felt we left a couple of games behind us. We could have been in a position to go for promotion against Roscommon, if we hadn't done that.

"Now as we look ahead to the provincial it's about playing the good football we are capable of for longer periods."
