Roscommon's joint manager Kevin McStay

Roscommon joint-manager Kevin McStay has urged caution for his side as they travel to the U.S for the Connacht championship opener against New York.

The sides meet in the Big Apple on Sunday and Roscommon are overwhelming favourites to make the long journey home with a win.

However, the Mayo native stressed to the Roscommon Herald that the squad must not get caught up too much in the build up to the match.

"If we do our stuff in New York, we'll be fine, if we're off the pace, the whole thing will become a bit messy," said McStay.

"That's why we'll be picking players that are up for it. We've made a decision to leave our injured players at home. They're no good to us if they can't contribute on the day.

"There are a lot of sideshows in New York and while we respect that we have to engage with Roscommon people and everything else that's going on, the one objective we have is to win the match. That's the only thing that matters."
