Intermediate Championship QF

Daingean 1-15 Doon 1-16

A last minute goal ensured Doon progressed to the semi-final of this years intermediate championship last Saturday evening in Clara at Daingean's expense. Daingean edged the opening exchanges and quickly raced into a 3 point lead following three Jamie Hayes points coupled with a David Feely effort thanks to some good work from Ciaran McEvoy. Doon would soon reduce the deficit to the minimum however points from Colin Brennan and a brace of points from the brilliant Ciaran McEvoy restored Daingean's three point lead. Doon responded with a couple of scores before the break which resulted in a scoreline of 7-5 to Daingean at the break. Tim Spellman got the opening score of the second half for Daingean however a period of dominance would then follow for Doon where they recorded seven points without reply. Daingean introduced Tom Fay and Charlie Hayes in an effort to stem the tide and the latter duly delivered with a quick fire goal and a point to level matters. Daingean's goal coming as a result of some good interplay between Ciaran McEvoy and Jamie Hayes with Charlie eventually palming the ball to the net. Either side could have won it in normal time with Daingean having player of the year Conan Curley to thank as he produced some customary spectacular saves. As the game entered its dying moments it was Daingean who trailed by a point. Credit to Gary Comerford's men however as they battled to the very end and deservedly got their equaliser through Jamie Hayes who ended the game with a personal tally of nine points. Jamie Hayes got the opening two scores of the extra time period. Indeed Daingean would lead for the entire extra time period with Jamie Hayes helping himself to four points in this period. With seconds remaining Daingean held a two point lead and an intermediate semi-final was within touching distance. However, heartbreak for Daingean soon followed with a last minute goal securing a single point victory for the blues.
