INTERMEDIATE Football

We lined out for the Intermediate football county quarter final on Saturday 17 September in Clarina at 5:00 to face Adare. As the game progressed we created many chances but were unable to convert them into scores against a prepared Adare team. They emerged victorious on a full time score of 2:6 to 0:5 points. One of the goals which was scored in the dying minutes to dash any chances of a return. There is lots of hopeful prospects for the future with some emerging young talent so keep it together and build for next year. Congratulations to the management of Donal Brennan, Tom McGarry and all involved for getting so far.

 

Minor FOOTBALL

Well done to our minor footballers Claughaun/Old Christians who beat Shannon Gaels 2-12 to 0-07 in the West minor semi final championship on Sunday 18th

This is a fine team in the making that works hard to reap the benefits, they are a credit to the club and an example to their clubmates. Congratulation on the win, enjoy it and we hope to see more silverware following this team.

 

U14 HURLING

Southside Gaels progressed to the County semi final to play Ballybrown which was held in Dooley Park on Friday 16 September. Unfortunately it wasn't to be as Ballybrown took the honours at progressing to the final by winning on a margin of 3 points.

Congratulations to all the lads who played their hearts out and gave everything on the field. This team is made up of Claughaun, Old Christians and St. Patrick's and go by the name Southside Gaels. These players are now playing at a high level in Premier hurling and is filled with players surely to play inter county. Sam Lillis in Goals who is an excellent hurler and shot stopper of the finest degree. Jack McGarry in full back who usually plays centre back played an absolute stormer and has to be commended for his outstanding performances and leadership qualities throughout the year. Ben Roche and Kyle Mullins played their socks off in each corner and left nobody pass. Every ball was fiercely contested in the half back line by Adam Koyce who was simply brilliant, Dylan McMahon ferocious as always and Gearóid O'Sullivan quick and responded to every move. In the middle of the park, Adam McNamara and Sean Mortell had a job to do against a tough Ballybrown outfit. They wore their hearts on their sleeves as they always do and was well able to bring the fight when needed most. On the centre forward line Sean Byrnes was a target man for both sides, man marked by Ballybrown and a man to find for our own puck outs. His turn of pace was unequalled. Diarmuid Hegarty was inspirational at centre forward, fighting for every ball, controlled much of the play as he moved to different positions around the field. His remarkable skill is to be admired. Jack O'Callaghan on the wing battled every chance he got and is one to look out for in the future. He has a cunning style which is unpredictable and a nightmare for defenders, it's exactly what the game seeks, brains over brawn often wins. In the full forward line we had Jonathan Casey who was always a threat in the corner with electric pace, Cian Casey who is in a league of his own, a superb hurler in every aspect, skill, speed, determination, mentality, strength, alertness and most of all, a fine captain, a leader on and off the field. In the other corner, Conor Keogh dazzled the defence with his string of goals that he had been saving for this big day. He's the strongest corner forward imaginable for an under 14 contest and he's still 2 more years underage. We cannot forget our super subs who are younger than most and will have their chance next year. We had late appearances by Aidan Kirby, Patrick O'Doherty, Robert Galligan, Ronan Fitzgerald and Ryan Manning. This is a great team with character and we wish them all the best in the future. Keep hitting a ball against the wall and away from the couch over the winter and we will definitely be in for great success next year in the U15 and 16's. We thank the parents and supporters who have attended the games all season who no doubt have been entertained by great displays of hurling.

 

U12

Well done our super U12 footballers who won their two games in the U12s blitz finals beating Granagh/Ballingarry 1-8 to 3-1 in the first game and Bruree 1-3 to 1-2. Well done to all the players and management.

Quiz Night

Claughaun Gaa Club Bar are running a quiz on Friday 30th Sept at 9pm to benefit Limerick Suicide Watch. There will be finger food on the night and Spot prizes for a bumper raffle to raise much needed funds for this hardworking group. Buy your tickets at the club, €5 each or €20 for a table of 4. Please show your support for this great cause. Keep an eye on future nights planned in the club, we will be holding a fancy dress night on Sunday 30th Oct!

There was no winner of our massive lotto of €11,300 for 19 September. Numbers drawn were 1, 12, 13, 22. Next week's lotto will be €11,400, tickets available from our club sellers, behind our bar and now through our online lotto. Please continue supporting Claughaun by doing the lotto each week. It is a vital source of income to keep facilities running in the club.
