FOOTBALL LEAGUE NORTH TIER 1

Raheen Senior Footballers suffered their 3rd defeat as they completed the Football League North Tier 1 against Senior Champions Edenderry last Friday evening in Edenderry on a scoreline of 1-07 to 0-08. In the first half Raheen were denied 2 great goal chances as the ball came off the upright and the crossbar which would have kept them right in touch but as it was Edenderry led by 1-07 to 0-03 at the break. Edenderry kicked over 3 points in a row straight from the re-start but thereafter 4 points from Dylan Hyland & 1 from Colin Keogh for Raheen to 7 points for Edenderry completed the tally. This result means that Raheen Seniors will most likely now play in Div 2 of the League when it moves on to the next stage.

U14 FEILE FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL

Na Fianna U14 Footballers are bound for the 2016 All Ireland Feile Peil na Nog in Kerry/ Cork / Limerick as the Offaly A Representatives on the last weekend in June after they put in a sensational performance to beat Clara in the Feile League Final last Tuesday week in front of a huge crowd of supporters in Cappincur on a scoreline of 2-09 to 2-06. Both sides opened the scoring with 3 points apiece before Clara took the first advantage on 17 mins when what appeared to be a shot going wide changed direction in the wind and dropped into the top corner of the net for the opening goal. Na Fianna did not let it faze them and responded with a point followed immediately on 26 mins by their first goal when centre forward Ryan Strong burst through the middle to fire his shot to the net give Na Fianna a lead they would not surrender. A point apiece followed before the break and so at halftime Na Fianna led by the minimum 1-05 to 1-04. Na Fianna extended their lead with the first 2 points of the second half. Then on 13 mins came the turning point of the game for Na Fianna when Morgan Tynan's free in midfield picked out Adam Mangan about 10 m in front and the midfielder put his head down and set off for goal where he blasted the ball to the net for goal no 2. Both sides added 2 points each before Clara were given hope of a comeback with 3 mins left when they were awarded a penalty for a foul which they dispatched to the net but this proved to be the final score and Na Fianna held on for the win where captain David McElduff was presented with the cup by Coiste na Nog chairman Eamon Cusack to great cheers of celebration from players, management and supporters. In the All-Ireland Feile Na Fianna will be hosted by the Eire Og club in Ovens in Cork and will be playing Eire Og (Cork), Ballincollig (Cork) and the Armagh Representatives in their group in Div 2.
