New arrival

Congratulations to Niall and Mary Farrelly on the birth of their baby daughter Erin. She is being spoilt by her brothers Ciaran and Cormac we're told. If you see Niall around and is looking a like rougher than usual it's probably down to the late nights and early mornings.

Mid-Tier Division 3 league

Gracefield played host to the Daingean Junior C team on Friday last. This was the lads third outing of the year to date. The pitch and conditions were ideal and it was a great evening for football. Unfortunately the lads came up against a very strong Gracefield team and it was clear from the off that they had their work cut out. Gracefield stormed into a 10-0 lead in the first half and never let up from there. Daingean tried hard and battled all over the field but in the end the result was Gracefield 3-22 Daingean 0-4.

Mid-Tier Division 1 League

The intermediate team played host to near neighbours Ballycommon on Saturday evening. The field was in immaculate condition following a mighty effort from Liam Brennan and his ground's team. This was the lads second outing of the year and a good challenge against local rivals. A cracking good game of football ensued with nonstop action and excellent scores. In fact there were very few wides registered by either team such was the accuracy on show. Daingean started very brightly and worked the ball up the field efficiently while playing some nice fluid football. In the full forward line Charlie Hayes and Shane Tierney were making great runs and notching over well worked scores. Coming near the end of the half Daingean had put together a lead of 4 points but a couple of errors lead to a Ballycommon goal which brought them right back into the game. The half time score was Daingean 0-10 to Ballycommon 1-6. The second half started in the same vein as the first with two unanswered points from Daingean in the first 5 mins. With Cathal Egan dominant at centre back it looked like the lads would push on for victory. However Ballycommon had different ideas and a couple of quick fire goals put them into the lead. Daingean kept pegging back the lead with points but Ballycommon responded with goals. It was end to end stuff and both teams looked breathless at times. A couple of injury's for Daingean and some excellent subs for Ballycommon tipped the scale back in favour of the Bally men and they ran out 4 point winners on a score of Daingean 2-16 Ballycommon 5-11. The large crowd really got value for money and the style of football played by both teams was very attractive for those in attendance. Daingean will be disappointed with the loss when it looked like the game was for the winning but too many simple errors and a lack of clinical finishing in front of goals cost in the end. Ballycommon were clinical and scored 5 great goals and in particular 3 of them were worked the length of the field following missed Daingean goal chances. Daingean team; Conan Curley, Colm Brophy, Danny Mangan, Dallan Goulding, Colm O'Shea, Cathal Egan, Pauric Mangan, Conleth Carey, David Walsh, David Feely, Jamie Hayes, Cillian Whittle, Jake Naughton, Charlie Hayes, Shane Tierney. Subs used Paddy Sheeran, Johnny McGrath and Niall Farrelly

St Vincents u21

Best of luck to St Vincents as they go for 3 in a row u21 championships next Saturday in O'Connor Park against St Patricks of Edenderry. It would be a historic achievement for the lads and it will be a very poignant occasion following the terrible loss of their team mate Adam Mangan. Please come out and support the lads next Saturday evening at6:30 in OCP.
