New Offaly hurling manager Eamonn Kelly is confident he can turn the county's fortunes around.
The former Kerry boss is looking forward to getting started in the role and has already attended a number of club games in the Faithful County, despite his involvement with Sixmilebridge who are preparing for the Clare SHC final against neighbours Clonlara on Sunday week.
In an interview with the Tullamore Tribune, Kelly noted: "I have been involved in the Tipperary championship, the Limerick championship and with Loughrea in Galway; I have seen at least four different championships.
"There are loads of good hurlers in Offaly, but I think the pace is maybe the difference between the Offaly championship and say the Clare championship. The Clare one is probably the best I have seen. It is very even and there are no mismatches. Clarecastle were unlucky not to be in a county final last year and they were in relegation final this year, so they are the margins that are in Clare.
"I can see the potential that is here. I have been to about 10 club matches now so far in about five weeks so I can definitely see that there is loads of potential, but we need to change a lot of what is happening in the background."
The Kildangan man added: "I see it as a step up from the Kerry job. I know they are at the same level in theory, but I think there is more potential in Offaly."
