Offaly clubs have rubber stamped Eamonn Kelly's appointment as Offaly senior hurling manager.

The Working Group consisting of  Liam Sheedy (chairman), Rory Hanniffy, Joe Brady, Tommy Byrne and Padraig Boland had recommended the Tipperary native to take over from Faithful legend Brian Whelahan and club delegates ratified his appointment at a County Committee meeting last night.

All-Ireland winning Tipperary manager Sheedy will act as a mentor to his fellow Tipp man Kelly in his new role.

A statement from the Offaly County Board reads: "Offaly County Board are delighted that the working group has agreed to remain on as a monitoring group who will work with Eamonn and a Leadership Team to be drawn from the new hurling panel on a monthly basis. Liam Sheedy will continue to chair that process.

"Additionally, Liam will act as a mentor to Eamonn Kelly in his role and will engage with Offaly Hurlers throughout the season - attending and inputting into training sessions as agreed with Eamonn and Offaly County Board."

Kelly takes over Offaly on the back of guiding Kerry to promotion to Division 1B and Christy Ring Cup honours this year.

An All-Ireland U21 and Junior medal winner with the Premier County, he guided his home club Kildangan to All-Ireland Intermediate success. He was also in charge of the UL Fitzgibbon Cup team from 2006-2007.
