NA FIANNA GAA FOOTBALL CLUB

G.A.A CLUB NOTES
DATE: 29 JUNE 2015

U14 ALL IRELAND REGIONAL FEILE FOOTBALL
Na Fianna U14 Footballers showed they are a real force to be reckoned with as they won out the All Ireland Regional Feile blitz tournament in Portlaoise last Saturday winning all 4 of their games (3 in the group and the final). In the first group game Na Fianna faced An Gaeltacht from Waterford and Na Fianna got off to the perfect start with 2 goals inside the first minute to set them on their way to a huge half time lead of 2-08 to no score and there was no let up in the second half as Na Fianna ran out big winners on a scoreline of 4-15 to 0-01. Then in the second group game Na Fianna were up against St Kevins from Louth. This was a much lower scoring affair but no change in the result as Na Fianna turned a half time lead of 0-07 to no score into a 0-11 to no score winning result. With 2 wins out of 2 Na Fianna had the place in the final within their sights as they went into their 3rd group game against Creggan from Antrim and they were cruising again at half time as they led 2-06 to 0-02 but the Antrim side made a real go of it in the second half as Na Fianna were glad to hold on to win on a full time score of 4-09 to 3-06 with Na Fianna's 4th goal coming with the last kick of the game. Having won their 3 group games Na Fianna won their group and were through to the Final where they met the other group winners Carrigaline of Cork. In the first half it was Na Fianna who had the best of the chances but at half time remarkably it was still scoreless. That did not stay that way once the ball was thrown in for the second half as Na Fianna kicked over the first 2 points inside the first minute from James Nolan and Jacob Beatty. Carrigaline got off the mark with a point in the 4th min. This is how it remained until the 9th min when Na Fianna were awarded a free on the edge of the square which Lee Mulpeter slotted over. With a 2 point lead it was always dangerous and Na Fianna keeper Conor Kelly made a couple of great saves to keep them in front and this is how it finished as Na Fianna held on to win on a scoreline of 0-03 to 0-01. There was great scenes of joy as Na Fianna captain Aaron Flanagan was presented with the winning shield. The final win was all the more remarkable with the fact that the entire Ballincollig team will be overage for this grade next year while only 5 of the Na Fianna team in a similar position and also that Ballincollig played in the Cork Central U14 Championship Final just 3 days beforehand.
NA FIANNA SQUAD: Conor Kelly, David Carthy, David McElduff, David Boland, Jack Gorry, Aaron Flanagan, Adam Mangan, Emmett Curley, Morgan Tynan, Adam Strong, Michael Buckley, James Nolan, Jacob Beatty, Ryan Strong, Lee Mulpeter, Gavin Kelly, James Bryan, Alex Bolton, Mark Kelly, Diarmuid Walsh, Cian Brophill.
