Referee Diarmuid Kirwan got a little bit too close to the action when throwing in the ball to start the second half of today's Leinster SHC semi-final.

The Cork-based match official fell to the ground after he was accidentally struck on the foot by Kilkenny midfielder Michael Fennelly's hurl. Kirwan got back on his feet, but was clearly in some discomfort.

However, after receiving treatment, he was able to continue with his duties.

Kirwan's fellow Offaly man Brian Gavin was also accidentally injured by a Kilkenny man - Tommy Walsh - when he was left with a bloodied nose in the 2011 All-Ireland final.
