> U 14 Hurling Championship
Tullamore U14 Hurlers recorded a hard earned win over Kilcormac Killoughey in the first round of the Championship played at rainswept Kilcormac on Sunday last May 10th.On an evening more suited to sitting beside the fire, Tullamore gave a great display of guts, determination and no little skill to come out on top by six points at the final whistle.
Playing with the elements in the first half,Tullamore were very wasteful in their shots on goal. However, Michael "The Jink" Fox produced a fabulous point from out on the left corner when scores were at a premium. Two late goals from Matthew Keegan and Anthony Lambe gave The Blues something of a cushion going into the break.Half Time score Tullamore 2-2, KK0-2.
The big question now was whether or not The Town could hold out against their great rivals. We need not have worried. In the best traditions of Tullamore Hurling, the boys rolled up their sleeves and dug in.Tackling with great ferocity and discipline,Tullamore comfortably coped with the inevitable KK onslaught in the second half. The deployment of Padraig Martin as an extra defender greatly added to the defensive effort as Tullamore cleared their lines again and again.Anthony Lambe put The Boys in Blue seven points up midway through the half with a sublime score from a difficult angle. With KK throwing the bath, the shower and the kitchen sink at The Blues during the final quarter, Tullamore ratcheted up their tackling even further.
Each side had only added one point to their half time tally by the time the final whistle blew and that in itself pays tribute to  the superb defensive effort from Tullamore when they faced the wind, the rain and the hill in the second half.Final Score Tullamore 2-3, KK 0-3.
This was a great start to the year for Tullamore who are fielding two teams in this year's Championships in an attempt at providing regular game-time for all the panel.Next up on Fri 22nd is a double-header at OBP when the First Team play Na Fianna and the Second Team take on Brosna Gaels.Your support is most welcome.
