Flanagan targets next aim

Offaly manager Pat Flanagan

Offaly manager Pat Flanagan admits that their first target of the year was to gain promotion and now their second is to win some silverware.

On Saturday, they have that opportunity as the Faithful County take on Longford in the NFL Division Four final at Croke Park.

Flanagan has turned the counties fortunes around since coming on board late last year and he admitted to the Midland Tribune that they were a work in progress.

"In my long term plan, I am looking at building a team and from that point of view, it has to be treated with the respect it deserves. It is a while since Offaly has gained silverware.

"Although it is Division 4, if we can get silverware, I don't think we should turn it down or lack effort going for it. I said at the start that we needed to get out of Division 4 and we have achieved that. Our next one is to win the league final and it is to win the first round of the championship.

"I will be very disappointed if we don't push on from here. It is not all about getting out of Division 4, it is all about building to achieve something."
