Daithi Regan is coming out of retirement at the age of 47.
The former Offaly star, who is better known for his hurling punditry these days, has revealed to his twitter followers that he is to line out for the Birr junior team this year. Considering his playing career ended well over a decade ago, it is certainly a brave move.
Regan is in good company as his former Birr and Offaly colleague Johnny Pilkington is also planning a comeback. A handful for the best of full backs in his prime, big Daithi was a regular on the Offaly senior team between 1989 and '96, during which time he won Leinster, All-Ireland and National League medals. He is also the holder of All-Ireland minor and club medals as well as a stack of Offaly SHC medals.
