Hurlers face neighbours

January 09, 2015

Offaly hurlers travel to Cusack Park, Mullingar this Sunday where they will take on home side Westmeath in the Walsh Cup.

This is the first competitive outing of the year for Brian Whelehan's charges as they look to hit the ground running and improve on last year's performances.

Whelehan and his selectors are sure to give a number of fringe players a run out against the Lake County, as they still have a number of players to return.

Derek Morkan and Conor Mahon have not yet returned to the panel, while David Kenny is injured and is reported to be out of action until the Spring.

Galway are also in this group and with two teams advancing to the semi-final, Offaly will be looking for a win here to ensure an extra competitive game ahead of the NHL.

Offaly begin their first campaign in many years without the experienced Rory Hannify who retired at the end of last year alongside Kevin Brady.
