Pat Flanagan was ratified as the new Offaly senior and U21 football manager at a special county board meeting tonight.

The Clara native replaces Emmett McDonnell who stepped down in June after two years in charge.

Flanagan, who previously managed Sligo and Westmeath, will be assisted by Declan Farrell (Edenderry) and James Stewart (Clara) at senior and Eugene Hyland (Gracefield) and Paul Gavin (Ballycumber) at U21.

Meanwhile, Brian Whelahan has been reappointed as the county's senior hurling manager for a second year. A backroom team has yet to be confirmed.

It was also announced at the meeting that Paschal Kellaghan will not be continuing in his role as minor football manager while the county board hope to have a proposal for the position of U21 hurling manager at next month's meeting.
