Galway's application to join the Leinster U21 and minor hurling championships is in danger of hitting a brick wall after two Liam MacCarthy counties voted against the move.

Offaly county board rejected the proposal at their meeting on Tuesday night and last night their neighbours Westmeath followed suit, with both feeling that the Tribesmen's participation in the championships will lessen their chances of success.

The Westerners made a formal application at last week's Leinster Council meeting to move their flagship underage teams into Leinster where their senior hurlers have competed since 2009. Galway have already been admitted to next year's Leinster IHC and have been drawn against Kilkenny in the semi-final.

Galway were hopeful that a vote on their U21 and minor application would be taken on the night, but it was decided to delay the decision until the next Leinster Council meeting on November 5 to allow counties more time to discuss the issue.
