U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL
Na Fianna U14 Footballers are through to the A Championship Final for the first time since 1991 as they comfortably won their Semi Final against Ballinamere / Durrow last Wednesday evening in O'Brien Pk, Tullamore on a scoreline of 4-16 to 3-04 making it 6 wins out of 6 in this year's Championship campaign.  B/D were first off the mark with the opening point but Na Fianna were on the scoreboard on 4 mins with the first goal when Lee Mulpeter caught a high ball on the edge of the square then ran in and struck the ball in the top right corner of the net. Na Fianna put over their first 2 points before getting their 2nd goal on 12 mins Mark Dillon took a pass from Cathal Brady before rounding his man then the keeper to blast the ball to the net. B/D added another point but it was sandwiched in between a 5 point haul for Na Fianna. Then in the last min of the half Na Fianna suffered a double blow when centre back Brian Keogh was black carded for a pull down and a penalty awarded which B/D dispatched to the net to bring them right back into it and so at the break Na Fianna led 2-07 to 1-02. Any hope of a comeback was wiped out within 5 mins of the restart as Na Fianna added 3 points followed by goal no 3 when a free in midfield was caught by Mark Dillon around the 45m line and he sent it in to Ger Plunkett on the endline who fired it into the top left corner of the net.  B/D put over another point on 10 mins but then a goal apiece followed over the next 5 mins, the Na Fianna effort when a Shot for a point came off the post and caught by Lee Mulpeter who turned and buried it in the net. With the game now over as a contest Na Fianna could afford to empty their bench but they still managed to add on another 6 points to B/D's 1. Then in the final min B/D were awarded their 2nd penalty which they struck to the net but at that stage it only gave them a better look on the scoreboard. Na Fianna now march on to the Final against Tullamore / Ferbane / Belmont on Saturday 18th October.
