Offaly have finally begun the process of finding a new football manager - eight weeks after Emmett McDonnell vacated the role.

McDonnell stepped down immediately after the All-Ireland qualifier first round defeat to Wicklow at the end of June, but there was no movement on the matter until this week when a committee charged with recommending a replacement for the Kinnegad man was formed.

It consists of former county board chairman Padraig Boland, Fergal McKeown (Tullamore) and former county players David Coffey (Ballyfore) and James Brady (Gracefield).

Meanwhile, it looks certain that Brian Whelahan will be ratified as hurling manager for another year.
