JUNIOR 'A' HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Edenderry 3-19  Gracefield 1-13

The DERMOT HALL Sponsored Junior Hurling team continued their excellent recent form with a comfortable win over near neighbours Gracefield.  This game was refixed due to a waterlogged pitch a number of weeks ago.  As it turned out the game between the North Offaly sides would determine who would get 3rd spot in the group behind KK & Kinnitty respectfully.

Edenderry had some to spare with some great performances all round from Derek Egan through to Shane Kelly.  Dual star David Hanlon pitched in with a formidable 1-10 in a Man of the Match display.

The Reds will now play Ballinamere in the Quarter Final and will be confident entering the knockout stages.  They have a few weeks to prepare and hopefully they can continue their good form and progress one stage further than last year.  With cautious optimism "Jimmy's Winning Matches" could be the anthem again this year!

U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Edenderry 5-12 Ballinamere/Durrow 2-05

The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored U14 Football Team sit at the top of Group 1 following an excellent home win over Ballinamere/Durrow.  Playing with the aid of a strong breeze the lads found it difficult to get into their stride.  Following a series of early wides the lads settled down to play some good football and finished out comfortable winners.  The Reds have one final group game against St. Vincent's and a win will secure top spot and a place in the K/O stages.  This team must continue their good form, work hard and listen to their coaches and they might have a say in the destination of the U14 Championship.

MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Edenderry 6-17 St. Broughan's 0-09

The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored Minor Football Team played St Broughans on Wednesday night last in Edenderry, in the 3rd round of the championship.  A win for Edenderry would put them into the Q/F's with a game to spare.

St Broughans aided by a strong wind started the game brightly and went into a 3 point lead playing some great football in the early stages of the first half.  Two quick goals from Edenderry changed the game midway through the first half and from here on in Edenderry got on top at midfield and were in control.  At half time the score was 3-10 to 0-05.

St Broughans again started the second half in the same manner as they did the first half and had 3 pts scored before Edenderry had one on the board.  Edenderry got to grips with midfield again and finished out the game very strong with 3 more goals. It was a very young St Broughans team with more than half be made up of Under 16 players so Edenderry will have much harder tests than this in the final rounds of the championship.

Edenderry have improved greatly as the games go by but the lads know they still have alot of hard work to do if they are to be there on the day the silverware is been given out.  Edenderry lined out as follows Cain Brereton, Jamie O' Connor, Andrew Maloney, Mark Abbot, Eoin Dunne, Eoin Farrell, David Hughes, David Maloney, Adam Mahon, Jordan Hayes, Gazza Farrell, Lee Hyland, Cian Farrell, Oisin o Neill, Alex Kenny, all subs were used Jake Kenny, Kevin Brereton, Kealen Connell, Aaron Mangan, Tommy Ryan and Daryl O' Connor

U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Edenderry 3-08 Ferbane/Belmont 5-10

The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored U16 Football Team played Ferbane/Belmont in the Quarter Final of the Championship under lights in Ballinamere.  The game was just finishing as we got to press so a full report is not available, however the scorelines displays that the Reds give this alash against all the odds and as massive underdogs gave Championship favourites Ferbane/Belmont plenty to think about.

Many thanks to David Cullen, Declan Farrell & Pauric Ennis for working with this team all year and to players for working so hard to improve their game since the commencement of the season back in March.

OFFALY HURLING - OPEN FORUM
A major effort to restore Offaly hurling to its place among the top hurling counties will kick off with an Offaly Hurling Open Forum on the Wednesday after the All-Ireland hurling final.

A Leinster Council initiative, headed by former Offaly Manager, Diarmuid Healy has been established to put a process in place to re-establish Offaly as a top hurling county.

An Offaly Hurling Committee has been put to assist in the process.  The committee is chaired by Kieran Keenaghan(St Rynagh's) and includes Pat Cleary(Ballinamere); Joe Errity(Birr), Cillian Farrell(Edenderry), Martin Hanamy(St Rynagh's); Liam Hogan(Ballyboden St Enda's and formerly Coolderry); Finian McDermott(Tullamore); Damien Martin(St Rynagh's) and Pat O'Connor(Coolderry).

The role of the committee is to identify issues, identify solutions to those issues, draft plans to deal with the issues and identify people to implement those plans.

The committee has already identified coaching and team preparation at club and county level as two major issues.  Plans are already being drafted to organise courses in coaching and team preparation by top coaches from outside the county.

High-powered intensive courses are also being planned for all county mentors to commence in October.

An Offaly Hurling Open Forum will be held in the County Arms Hotel, Birr on Wednesday September 10 at 8pm.  This Forum will consist of a presentation by Diarmuid Healy on Stage 1 of Offaly Recovery - Implementing Skill Coaching in Team Preparation which will focus on defining hurling, coaching and team preparation.  This will be followed by questions and answers and a sharing of ideas of how to restore Offaly to its rightful place among the top hurling counties.

The Forum is open to all.  Club officials, team mentors, players and club members are particularly encouraged to attend.

EDENDERRY U10 FOOTBALLERS BLITZ
Edenderry under 10 footballers played their last Monday night game this week.  Shamrocks were the opposition.  The teams had played earlier in the season in a Blitz in Rahan and were evenly matched then.  Shamrocks came over to Edenderry in big numbers which was great to see as not all teams have been inclined to travel past Tullamore! Thanks to Shamrocks for making the effort.

The two clubs had two teams evenly matched up as is the spirit of the Go Games and 1 point for a goal and 3 points for a point in an effort to encourage the scoring of points to improve skill levels.

Edenderry 1 played Shamrocks 1 in their first game and were evenly matched up, both teams tried hard and the high fielding of balls from the Edenderry lads was a joy behold, Edenderry took some great points from long range and ran out winners in the end.

Edenderry 2 played Shamrocks 2 in their first game and again both teams tried very hard right till the end, the sides were level at half time but in a huge battle were the defences on both side show great skill in tackling Shamrocks came out on top by 1 point.

Edenderry 1 went over to play Shamrocks 2 in the next game, Edenderry were on top for the first half of this game and went in with a commanding lead at half time but Shamrocks came out in the second half much stronger and took the game to the Young Reds, Edenderry came back into it near the end and took some great scores to hold out to win by a few points.

Edenderry 2 were up against Shamrocks 2 in their second game, Edenderry started better in this game ,they worked hard for each other and took some great score, Shamrocks worked hard and never gave in but in the end the Young Reds won out by a few points.

This was the last Monday evening game for these lads but they have 3 more Blitz to play in, they head off the Mullingar on the Sat 13 of Sept for another all Inter County Blitz , Sat 20 Sept for all Offaly Blitz and on the Sat 27 Sept Edenderry will hold our own inter county blitz which will be a great way to end the season. All the lads are still training hard every Tue and very much looking forward to their busy few weeks.

Edenderry 1 - Mark Forde, Killian Lowery, Leon McGrath, Jake Mooney, Aaron Kennedy, Jake Connelly, Mark Whelan, Cian Murphy, Josh Reilly, Cathal Nolan, Daniel O'Connell.

U12 TRIP TO CROKE PARK & RORY EGAN
Edenderry GAA was delighted to be in a position to bring a great bunch of young children to Croke Park on Sunday last t witness a fantastic game of football.  An full house added to the occasion and the lads will forever remember their day out.  The GAA is often criticised by those not understanding its finances, however as with all clubs we were offered tickets to an unlimited amount of children at €3 euro per ticket.  This represented excellent value for such a marquee game and the club was delighted to be in a position to treat our players to the day out.

The lads headed off at 11.30am on a bus and arrived in Croke Park in plenty of time.  They took their seats in the Davin End and were chaperoned by Adrian 'Babs' Forde, Nevin Farrell, Keith McGuinnes & Adrian Farrell.  They watched the Minor game as the atmosphere great ahead of the big one.  The majority of the lads were supporting their Leinster neighbours but made friends with and eventually sided with the men from Donegal.  An epic match was played out and the lads really enjoyed it.

There was Edenderry involvement on the pitch - at half time Edenderry man Rory Egan played for Donegal in the Cumman na mBunscoil mini games.  Rory scored 2-2 in the game and did himself, his family & Club proud.

To finish off the special day they stopped in McDonalds in the way home  and continued in full voice until the reached Edenderry singing songs all the way home.  Many thanks to the Management Team, mentioned above for taking the time out to take these lads away for the day.

CUL REDZ FINAL DAY - GRANDPARENTS DAY
Saturday 30th of August was the final day for CÚL REDZ 2014.  In another epic year that saw 187 different children try out Gaelic Games over the course of 16 weeks of the Summer.  The early weeks were certainly the strongest with fine weather our numbers regularly hit 130+.  As mentioned on Saturday the purpose of the programme is to give children and parents and introduction to Gaelic Games and  provide children with the basic fundamental skills in movement.  A difficulty that we encountered was that U8 fixtures regularly clashed with the sessions meaning the our U8 players weren't always there.  This is something we hope to rectify in 2015.

On Saturday, it was great to see both the parents and grandparents of the children present to witness the action.  This is something we wish to build on next year.  To finish the 2014 season each child was presented with a special edition CÚL REDZ T-Shirt.

Many thanks to all the coaches and helpers that made 2014 such a success.
