G.A.A CLUB NOTES

LOTTO
The numbers drawn in the Lotto draw which took place on Tuesday 05 August were 13 22 23 25. There was no Jackpot Winner of €9,400 and 1 Match 3 Winners [ Brian Cleary C/O Ger Cleary] [€200]. Next week's draw will take place in Direen's, Cloneygowan on Monday 18 August 2014.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen GAA Club will be playing Senior Championship Football next year after securing their place in this year's Intermediate Championship Semi Final by beating the previously unbeaten Cappincur in the penultimate round of the group stage last Thursday evening in O'Connor Pk, Tullamore on a scoreline of 4-09 to 0-08. Cappincur opened the scoring with a point inside the first min before Raheen equalised with their first point 5 mins later. Then on 9 mins Raheen struck for their first goal to set them on their way when Dylan Hyland made a run into the square before laying it off to Ben Ridgeway who in turn passed it to Declan Byrne to fire it into the right corner of the net. Cappincur responded with 2 points before Raheen were in for goal no 2 when Declan Byrne took a free in midfield which Paddy Rigney caught around the 45m line and went on a run towards the square where he passed it to Ben Ridgeway who blasted it past the keeper into the net. Raheen added another point before they raised the green flag for the 3rd time on 21 mins when Ben Ridgeway made a run in from the left wing and dispatched it to the net himself and he added 2 more points before the end of the half either side of a point for Cappincur which saw Raheen with a healthy lead at the break 3-04 to 0-05. Again Cappincur were first off the mark in the 1st min of second half with a pointed free but over the next 20 mins Raheen steadily increased their lead as they added 4 points to Cappincur's 2. Then with 3 mins left Raheen wrapped it up when a quick break downfield saw Dylan Hyland setup Paddy Rigney to fire in goal no 4 and Raheen completed their tally with the final point in the last min from Richie Reynolds. Raheen now go into the final round against Bracknagh knowing they are through as group winners.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL
Raheen Junior Footballers followed the lead of their Intermediate counterparts as they also have secured their place in the Semi Finals of the the Junior B Championship by seeing off the challenge of Clonbullogue in the Quarter Final last Saturday evening in Gracefield on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-08 in a game Raheen were in control of throughout as they led from start to finish. Raheen got off to a dream start as they cracked in the goal inside the 1st min when Jack Keogh's shot was spilled by the keeper with Johny Byrne quickest to react to shoot it to the net and they followed it up with the first 5 points in a row before Clonbullogue got off the mark with their first point midway through the half. The remainder of the half saw both sides add 2 points apiece which left Raheen leading at the break by 1-07 to 0-03. Raheen increased their lead with 2 points inside the first 3 mins of the second half. Clonbullogue replied with a point on 10 mins and this is how it remained for the next 10 mins when the sides swapped a point apiece. Clonbullogue did add 3 points in the last 3 mins but it was too little to late and Raheen held on to claim the win.

BARRY LEE 5K FUN RUN
The 2nd Annual Barry Lee 5k Fun Run will be held in Geashill Village on Sunday 24th August 2014 @ 12 Noon. Competitors may Run or Walk the route. Entry Fee is €10 for Adults, €5 for Students or €15 for a Family with the proceeds this year going towards Raheen GAA Club. Registration will take place from on Saturday (23 Aug) from 10am to 1pm & Sunday (24 Aug) from 10am in Raheen GAA Clubhouse. The event is AAI Approved with Prizes for all Categories. NA FIANNA GAA FOOTBALL CLUB

U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Na Fianna U16 Footballers suffered their first defeat of the Championship against the winners of the last 2 U14 Championships St Broughans in their Rd 3 encounter last Monday week in Geashill on a scoreline of 2-14 to 2-11. St Broughans were first off the mark with the opening point followed by the first goal on 7 mins before Na Fianna opened their account with a point. The sides then added a point apiece before Na Fianna struck for their first goal midway through the half when a free in midfield was worked in through the middle where it came to Ian Buckley in the square who picked his spot and blasted it to the net. This fired Na Fianna into action as they added 7 more points to St Brougans 3 over the remainder of the half to go in at the break leading 1-09 to 1-05. St Broughans came out a much improved side in the second half as they scored 1-04 without reply to retake the lead before Na Fianna got their first point of the second half on 12 mins. St Broughans responded with the next 2 points midway through the half. The sides added a point apiece with 5 mins left before St Broughans made sure of it with their final 2 points in the last min. Then 2 mins into stoppage time Na Fianna were awarded a penalty for a pickup in the square and Colin Keogh converted it for goal no 2 but it was too late to affect the result as St Broughans held on for the win.

U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Following their excellent opening round win Na Fianna U14 Footballers will be looking to continue their fine start to the Championship as they take on Tullamore in Rd 2 this Thursday (14 Aug) @ 7PM in Geashill. All Support would be appreciated.

U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Having already secured their place in the Championship Quarter Final Na Fianna U16 Footballers complete the group stage when they take on Clara in Clara next Monday (18 Aug) @ 7PM. All Support would be appreciated.
