Ferbane club notes

JUNIOR B CHAMPIONSHIP
After a setback against Erin Rovers in the previous round, the Junior B footballers returned to the top of the Group one table with a convincing eleven point win over Kinnitty last Thursday evening in Ferbane. All over the field there were significant improvements in performances, with James Murphy curtailing James Rigney, several players around the middle of the field putting in a solid hour's work and some great contributions up front, in particular from Ronan Cassidy and the free scoring full forward line.

One group game against Shannonbridge remains to be played and with a place on top of the group table to be played for, one final push in what is sure to be a keenly contested local derby is crucial.

The team that played was:

Aengus Coughlan; Warren Walsh, James Murphy, Shane Costello; Dermot Kenny, Shane Dunne, Tom Gilligan; Brian Gleeson, Brendan Wynne (0-1); Kevin Flynn, David Kenny, Ronan Cassidy (0-1); Mel Keenaghan (1-3), Joe Kenny (0-1), Nicky Claffey (0-8).

Subs: Darren Digan (0-1), Colm Kenny (0-1) and Joe Kenny.

SENIOR AND JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES

This weekend is another huge one for the club as the senior and junior A football panels face very important fixtures as they attempt to keep their championship hopes alive. The Juniors kick off the weekend with a trip to Ballinagar on Friday evening, the match throwing in at 7.30 pm. Both Ferbane and Ballinagar are currently sitting with two points from three games and defeat in this fixture could potentially eliminate either club. Conversely, a win against the Killeigh parish club would leave Ferbane with their fate in their own hands going into the final game of the group stages against Clonmore Harps. There have been some strong performances by the juniors this year and a win in this fixture is well within the grasp of this team if they can find a cohesive team display on Friday evening. All supporters are encouraged to travel to Ballinagar for what should be a very competitive tie.

The Senior footballers return to the scene of their last championship victory on Saturday evening when they face county champions Clara in Pullough at 7.15pm. The longstanding rivalry between Ferbane and Clara is one of the most competitive in the county and though Clara have been worthy champions of Offaly, a repeat of the performance from the previous round against Shamrocks should see Ferbane contest this game very well. This is a huge tie for the club and it is hoped that all supporters will make their way to Pullough for what should be a great game of football.
